The 2022 Moto E season will start next May. However, preseason tests were recently held for the teams to get ready with all they have. María Herrera, one of the talents to be part of the official grid of the electrified two-wheeled category, was present.

The Spaniard will be at the service of the Openbank Aspar Team, and she has already revealed the sensations left by the tests prior to the official start at the Circuito de Jerez. In addition, she was pleased to be on the grid, hoping to do everything she can to help other women to be successful at motorsports.

“I’m very happy to be back on track; it was a long winter with no motorcycles, and I recovered from an injury to my back. I’m trying to understand this year’s bike, it has less weight and for me it’s better, although the championship level is high, so we have to work hard and we are doing that.”

The Only Woman in MotoE

Her talent has already led her to MotoE, a seat has her name on it and she has earned it, but beyond wanting to be competitive on track, achieve podiums, victories and championships, Maria Herrera has an even bigger mission: to serve as an example and inspiration for other women to make the step into the world of competition.

“Sure, being the only one is a great motivation for me. I want to help others to be here with me in the future.” However, she made it clear that another factor has a direct bearing on whether more women can achieve that goal. It is the support received from their parents: “It is the most important thing, my father helped me a lot at the beginning of my career. If you don’t get this help you can’t grow in the championship.”

“I have to tell the parents to help the girls.”

Herrera’s support is evident from her display of talent. During pre-season testing, her father surprised her with a bouquet of roses in the pits, and even though she’s grown up and developed a career in MotoE, he’s still there whenever she needs it. That is exactly what Maria hopes for from parents who see their daughters turning to speed and motorsport.
