Lucas Di Grassi on the Rome Circuit: It’s My Favorite Track

The E-Prix of Rome is closer and the Formula E drivers are already beginning to assess the circuit’s qualities, scheduled to host for the third time the event of the electric single-seater series.

With a length of 3,385 meters and 19 turns, the dell’EUR track could be an ideal candidate to become the flagship of the category, according to statements made by one of the most prestigious racers in the tournament, Lucas Di Grassi.

The Venturi Racing team representative compared the Roman track with the Macau circuit, an emblematic circuit for both single-seaters (F3) and GT cars (FIA GT World Cup). A large number of drivers who are now part of the world’s elite have passed through this venue.

His Favorite Track

For Di Grassi, who won the Macau Formula 3 GP in 2005, the Italian dell’EUR is a “mini Macau” because it has some very similar qualities. “It has jumps, different asphalt with different grip, high-speed sections and heavy braking, all uphill and downhill,” he said.

“Rome is not only my favorite track, but probably the most difficult layout we have on the Formula E calendar. It’s like an old-fashioned track, full of imperfections that make it challenging,” he added.

Di Grassi also describes the circuit as “great” because it allows you to travel at a very high speed of around 240 kilometers per hour on the straight.

“You need to know where to push and where not to push. Just like in Macau, you need to develop your confidence as a driver and build up your pace. That’s the only way you can be fast,” he explained.

What to Expect in Rome?

As one of the longest tracks on the calendar, the Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR runs along the Obelisco di Marconi, against the backdrop of the iconic “Colosseo Quadrato”.

The layout was modified for season 7, but still features the challenging undulations, elevation changes, uneven surface and the famous jump. Now the track has longer and faster straights that offer opportunities for overtaking.

Next weekend, April 9-10, will be the joust for the eighth Formula E season calendar.
