This is the beginning of the end. Jurassic X Prix finally arrived and set the stage for Sunday 19 when Semifinals 1 and 2, Crazy Race and the Final Race will decide the champion for the first season of Extreme E, between Rosberg X Racing and X44 battling on the imposing and difficult circuit located in Dorset, UK.

As expected and after a practice session aimed at changing the scenario, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg’s teams were at the front of Qualifying 1, respectively, only 1.90 seconds apart. Third place on the time sheets went to ACCIONA Sainz XE Team, 2.75 seconds behind the leaders.

With the table set for Qualifying 2, which decided the teams’ segmentation for the Semifinals, Rosberg X Racing went out first with Molly Taylor in the lead on lap one. Johan Kristoffersson took control by the second lap and reduced a considerable lead to be momentarily in second place awaiting what X44 would do.

“The pressure is always there, of course we want to win.”

Knowing what RXR achieved, Cristina Gutierrez took it upon herself to open the lap for X44 in pursuit of a good result for Sunday. “I feel good, especially when you see a track like this, it’s stronger than yesterday (Friday during free practice), now it’s all in Séb’s hands”, sentenced the Spaniard. Justly, the rest of the Qualifying went to Sébastien Loeb, who brought out all his rally experience to set an incredible lap and seal the first place after stopping the clock at 9:14.793.

The seven-time Formula 1 champion’s team thus took first place overall at the Jurassic X Prix, as well as at all the X Prix held during the campaign, keeping the strong competitive pace displayed during the Saturday sessions at the 100% electric off-road championship, while title rival RXR came in second place.

Andretti United started their qualifying lap with Catie Munnings at the wheel, who posted a round that was just over the time of the leaders, Veloce Racing, by the moment they hit the track. When Timmy Hansen got into the ODYSSEY 21, his conviction was immediately perceived in order to achieve a good lap, where he tried to compete at the limit, exceeding them, because during his turn he crashed head-on into a tree, but fortunately he managed to turn back and continue his journey in Dorset with a badly injured car.

On the other hand, JBXE showed that he is serious on home territory to get a great result. In Qualy 2, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky went all out and set a very good lap, followed by an even better one by Kevin Hansen to stop the clock at 9:18.905.

There is no doubt that Extreme E organizers went all out to build a really tricky circuit, and they succeeded. Jamie Chadwick suffered the consequences of this after nearly flipping Veloce Racing’s ODYSSEY 21 head-on due to track irregularities.
