Through the slogan “Let’s Change the Future of Cars“, the iconic Toyota brand presented a strategy that includes the launch of several batteries that will reach 1,500 kilometers of autonomy.

Five new “batteries” will begin to enter the market between now and 2030. This was announced by the battery specialist and president of one of Toyota‘s development centers, Keiji Kaita.

The first of these will arrive in three years’ time, in 2026. It will be a new-generation lithium-ion battery that will double the range of the pack used by the Toyota bZ4X.

Lower Costs

According to Toyota, it will cost 20% less than the current ones and will be able to recharge from 10 to 80% in less than 20 minutes, taking into account that currently this process takes half an hour.

A bipolar lithium iron phosphate battery will take over, which will arrive in 2026 or 2027: the key to this technology is that it increases power density. With it, the autonomy will increase by 20% compared to the current Toyota bZ4X and reduce its cost by 40%.

Between 2027 and 2028, Toyota plans to launch a nickel-based lithium-ion bipolar battery. With it, the range will improve by 10% on the 1,000 kilometers of the first battery they will introduce in 2026. It will also cost 10% less.

In the second half of the decade, the two solid-state batteries that Toyota had promised will arrive. The first is scheduled to be available in 2027-2028 and the second after 2028.

With 20% more range than the lithium-ion battery of 2026, the Japanese brand will already be able to talk about a range of 1,200 kilometers.

Regarding the second, Toyota only informed that it will have 50% more autonomy than the 2026 one, which would provide a range of approximately 1,500 kilometers.
