After leading Formula E for almost five years, Jaime Reigle is stepping down as head of the electric single-seater series. However, he will not be leaving the category altogether to ensure a smooth transition.

Appointed in 2019, Reigle rode at the helm of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, a wave of magnitude that he was able to surf to build a multidisciplinary executive team, and introduced a series of initiatives that underpin the strategic positioning and continued development of the tournament.

During his tenure, Reigle oversaw the introduction of a new sporting format that has been met with universal enthusiasm from fans, teams and partners, the launch of the GEN3 car, and the implementation of technical, commercial and financial regulations that strengthen the business model for Formula E teams and manufacturers.

The Successor

The Formula E Board announced the appointment of Jeff Dodds as CEO, effective June 5. Dodds joins from Virgin Media O2 and will lead the next phase of the event’s growth as the world’s premier electric motorsport championship and driving force behind sustainability in elite sport.

Dodds has a proven track record in building dynamic media businesses. He served as Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media O2 for the past two years and prior to that held leadership roles at Virgin Media as COO, Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer. He also spent two years living and working in the Netherlands as CEO of the Tele2 telecommunications business.

In addition, he has held executive positions at Callaway Golf and Honda, while he currently sits on the board of the disability equality organization, The Valiable 500, and is a Non-Executive Director of the Department for Levelling, Housing and Communities.

On the changes, Alejandro Agag, Founder and Chairman of Formula E, made the announcement with great anticipation of adding a ready-made element to the series’ top brass.

“I am pleased to welcome Jeff Dodds as CEO ahead of an exciting phase for Formula E as we build on the success of Season 9. Jeff brings a proven track record of dynamic leadership and impressive execution to Formula E, and the Board looks forward to him unlocking Formula E’s full potential, to the benefit of our fans, teams, manufacturers, partners and stakeholders,” he noted.

He thanked Reigle for his leadership over the past four years and welcome his support for the remainder of the season.

“I enjoyed partnering with Jamie to build on my founding vision while reimagining the definition of success for Formula E. I am very pleased to work with him and his team. It has been a pleasure working with him and I look forward to welcoming him back to Formula E racing in the future,” he concluded.
