With only a few months in office, Jeff Dodds rekindled the controversy between Formula E and F1. The CEO of the electric single-seater series threw a dart at the “Grand Circus”.

“I watched the Hungarian GP when I was on vacation. I watched the first five or six minutes and then told my kids I was going out for a swim. I commented to them that I would be back in 40 because I thought almost nothing would have changed, and I was right,” Dodds said.

The Formula E executive believes that a healthy F1 is great for all motorsports. He also noted that a dynamic and exciting competition brings new fans, excitement and conversations to the entire motorsports ecosystem.

Merging the Two Series?

On the debate raised some time ago by Formula E Co-founder Alejandro Agag, related to the possible merger of both categories. “Formula 1 doesn’t have to lose for us to win, and we don’t have to win for them to lose, there is room in this ecosystem for two really successful and different championships.”

He emphasized that this 2023 edition is not an exciting season for F1. “I’m just saying what the other teams are manifesting and what everyone in the sport is saying, it’s not particularly impressive.”

Dodds noted that in Formula E, as many as four drivers fought for the title right to the end, with a number of overtakes providing eye-catching spectacle for the fans.

“It’s been the most exciting season ever. We’re delivering some really exciting racing,” he said.
Dodds’ considerations are based on the dominance of Max Verstappen in recent seasons in the top category of motorsport, coupled with the “monopoly” represented by Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes dynasty.
