Jaguar Racing Prepares Major Sustainable Changes for the Portland E-Prix

Through a key partnership with technology giant AERO, Jaguar TCS Racing is set to undergo a series of sustainable refinements to its Jaguar I-TYPE 6 starting with the next race on the calendar in Portland.

Since the partnership was finalized, Jaguar TCS Racing has been working with the team to apply its materials technology to its race cars.

AERO’s advanced urethane technology forms the black, white and gold livery of the I-TYPE 6, and is an alternative to traditional wrapping with an aerodynamic and sustainable manufacturing and application process.

The aforementioned features create minimal impact on the environment with no polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds, emits no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and produces zero carbon dioxide (CO2).

Environmental contribution

AERO produces materials that cannot be particularized and flow into rivers and oceans, outstanding with an estimated 2.25 million tons of microplastics entering the ocean each year as a result of traditional painting.

“We are constantly exploring ways to improve sustainability without compromising performance,” said James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal.

“We include methods of using less energy and fewer resources in everything we do. Working with AERO is revolutionary, as they have provided us with a solution that outperforms a traditional car wrap in every way: it’s lighter, more durable and has a dramatically lower impact on our planet,” added the executive.

Sustainable Goals

While Jaguar is committed to becoming an all-electric modern luxury brand from 2025, it also aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions across its supply chain, products and operations by 2039.

Importantly, Jaguar TCS Racing provides the platform to test and develop innovations that will benefit future road car development and enable sustainable transformation.

The team, along with its portfolio of partners, use the competitive nature of Formula E to push boundaries and discover even the smallest gains in efficiency.

AERO‘s precision-engineered materials technology applied to the race car features ultra-lightweight properties and eliminates the need for multiple layers of coating, offering a reduction in mass, ultimately increasing performance and range benefits.
