Hyundai Motor Company confirmed its presence in the PURE ETCR all-electric car championship for the inaugural season 2021. In addition, the manufacturer announced that it will continue its participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC) until 2022.

The PURE ETCR championship, which will have its first campaign in 2021, will begin in June at the Vallelunga circuit, Italy. For this competition, Hyundai plans to use the Veloster N ETCR, a fully electric car that has been developed by the Hyundai Motorsport team in Alzenau, Germany.

Hyundai’s dedication to the development of mobility technology is based on the mutual involvement between Hyundai Motorsport and the N brand. In this way, future production models bearing the N designation will be direct beneficiaries of Hyundai’s involvement in motorsports.

About the World Rally Championship

For the 2022 WRC season, the series will enter a new era using hybrid technology. In this way, Hyundai Motorsport will develop a new hybrid based on the i20 N, a model that in turn has been directly influenced by international rally competition.

“It is imperative for us to embrace more sustainable solutions, so we are delighted to see WRC move in this direction with new hybrid regulations that will create a more relevant link to our road vehicle technology,” says Vice President and Head of N Brand Management and Motorsport Sub-Division at Hyundai Motor Company, Till Wartenberg.

Undoubtedly, electric technology is increasingly imposed in the main world motorsport competitions, with the objective of developing cleaner energy and thus caring for the environment.
