Extreme E faces its fourth season race in Sardinia this weekend with Enel X as the main sponsor of the Island X Prix, beyond they prominent role as a collaborator in clean energy for the division created by Alejandro Agag.

Before the ODYSSEY 21 race in Sardinia, through a press conference, today Enel X’s Head of eMotorsports, Michele Cecchini, talked about the main reason for the company’s presence in the 100% electric SUV series.

“We want to develop effective technologies and solutions, so we believe that in motorsports we can do that faster. We want to make sure that everything can be possible, as sustainable as possible,” said Cecchini during a press conference prior to the Enel X Island X Prix.

From October 23 to 24, Extreme E will race in Sardinia with a very special reason: to put in place various plans from the Legacy Programs that may help in favor of the recovery of the area, which has suffered considerably from forest fires over the months. In addition, Enel X will work together with the series to find solutions and implement them.

“It was difficult to see what happened here in Sardinia, we are happy to be able to help.”

The fact that the race is in Italy, home of Enel X, also promotes a greater sense of ownership of the company’s exemplary actions on behalf of Sardinia. “Great place to be here with all of you, we have made friends all along the way of this collaboration. This experience is really fascinating, especially for what we can do in terms of sustainability.”

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Extreme E, meanwhile, expressed his excitement at being in Europe for the first time this season, asserting that they are in talks to make the continent a permanent fixture on the division’s development.

“It’s great to be in Europe, it’s fantastic. We discussed with team owners to definitely have, always, a race in Europe. It can be here (in Sardinia), we love this location, by the way. So far the spirit is incredible. Let’s see how the race will be, it will be fascinating for sure,” he said.

Let’s remember that, at least until before this weekend action on track, three teams are battling head-to-head to make history and become the first champions of the series. Rosberg X Racing, X44 and Andretti United have the chance to fight it all on the Sardinian track.

Johan Kristoffersson and Molly Taylor (RXR) are leaders and look like favorites, but they should not be trusted by anything because the talent of Sébastien Loeb and Cristina Gutiérrez (X44) can do always wil bea a threat, as can Timmy Hansen and Catie Munnings (Andretti).
