Formula E Unveils Provisional Calendar for 2023

The Gen3 era of Formula E generates such expectation that already the promoters of the series, in a joint work with the International Automobile Federation (FIA), offered a preliminary calendar for season 9.

The first campaign with third-generation vehicles will feature 18 races between January and July 2023, on street circuits in 13 cities around the world, surpassing the previous record of 16 races in 10 different metropolises in 2022.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, on January 14, will host the first round of the “season nine” and the official competition presentation of the new single-seaters that promise to fill the tracks with speed.

The board proposed in the first instance by the FIA and Formula E has two new venues, considered as territories with great roots in motorsport. Round 4 of the championship will be held in Hyderabad, India, on February 11, while fans in Brazil will see the São Paulo E-Prix on March 25 for Round 7.

Repeating Cities

Berlin will remain Formula E’s flagship region, as it is the only city to have hosted an E-Prix in all nine seasons of the tournament, while Seoul and Jakarta will remain after this season’s inaugural races. Record television viewership and sold-out grandstands in Jakarta gave credit for Indonesia hosting a double-header of races in 2023.

Meanwhile, Diriyah in Saudi Arabia will host the now traditional night doubleheader on January 27 and 28. Monaco, Rome and London close the schedule for the electric single-seater series.

It should be noted that the publication of the calendar was ratified by the FIA World Motor Sports Council and with the support of the local ASN (National Automobile Clubs) for each city.

Great Expectations

In addition to the arrival of the Gen3 car, Formula E will have iconic global motorsport brands such as McLaren Racing, Maserati and ABT on its grid, which will add to the prestige of the category.

“The ABB FIA Formula E ABB World Championship Season 9 calendar is our broadest and most dynamic racing program yet and I can’t wait to get started,” said Competition Director, Alberto Longo.

“We will continue to push the international boundaries of all-electric street racing with E-Prix in Hyderabad and São Paulo, while maintaining the hugely popular races in Diriyah, Mexico City, Berlin, Monaco, Rome and London with Jakarta and Seoul now established,” he added.

Longo further informed that they are also working to include a race in Cape Town and another in the United States in the final calendar.
