Formula E Sustainability Director: “The World doesn’t Need Another Racing Series, It Needs a Competition That Really Helps to Electrify the Streets”

  • “We strongly believe that we need to be a reflection of the society we want to build”

Green Racing News held its third virtual meeting dedicated to sustainability called Green Racing Virtual Summit #3, which served as a platform for Julia Pallé, Sustainability Director of Formula E, to elaborate on the aspects that make the series unique in terms of sustainability and how it broadens the meanings of the concept to its fullest expression.

Juan Morán, Global Chief Customer Officer at DHL, had a pleasant discussion with Pallé, addressing how the 100% electric single-seater category leaves its mark on society on a sustainable level, going beyond racing and competition.

FE Girls On Track

“It is very important for us to use the power of the championship to contribute to building a more inclusive society. One of the best examples of this is a program we share with DHL called FE Girls on Track, which is about promoting gender diversity and inclusion in the motorsports environment, unfortunately largely dominated by men.

The program shows young women from different walks of life that they can have a career in motorsports. “They can decide to be engineers, mechanics, journalists, race car drivers, of course, and many more.”

“Now, what’s amazing about this initiative is that we take this group made up of hundreds of girls and assign them a series of tasks: aerodynamics, with DHL they organize containers, ABB has some robotics, so we give them a perspective on what kind of career they can have.”

In addition, one of the advantages FE Girls on Track gives, beyond training and preparing them for a male-dominated career field, is getting to know the championship teams and drivers, literally showing what the program (Girls on Track) is about, working in the environment where the heart of the series is located. “There’s no reason not to develop a career in motorsports, that’s what really matters to us.”
