In a historic moment for electric mobility at COP28 Transport Day, the UK Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt Hon Mark Harper MP, praised Formula E for its pioneering role in revolutionizing electric mobility.

He described the series as a “myth-busting” force, and highlighted Formula E’s exceptional combination of “world-class performance” and commitment to the carbon agenda.

In a major step to boost electric vehicle infrastructure, Harper announced the UK government’s €70 million pilot scheme to expand ultra-fast electric vehicle charging points on freeway services, marking a significant step towards the UK’s net zero emissions targets.

The MP praised Formula E’s role as a catalyst for technological advancement and decarbonization in the road vehicle sector, and highlighted the championship’s potential to help the UK achieve its ambitious environmental targets.

The announcement followed interesting panel discussions at the summit, which featured experts from the Formula E ecosystem, including ABB, DHL, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, Envision Racing and UNICEF.

In that vein, Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, commented that Formula E’s presence at COP28 sends a powerful message that sustainability and high performance can coexist without compromise.

“Our championship has consistently pushed the boundaries of electric mobility, thrilling fans around the world while serving as a cutting-edge test bed for electric vehicle technology,” he said.

In a related session at COP28, Julia Pallé, Formula E’s Vice President of Sustainability, delivered two workshops at the DHL Innovation Center in Dubai.

Pallé emphasized the critical need for action and collaboration to combat climate change, highlighting how sustainability can accelerate growth rather than hinder it.
