Formula E returns to Jakarta for another big challenge of Season 11

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship action returns in force to Jakarta for Round 12 of Season 11.

The 22 world-class Formula E drivers are set to drive the GEN3 Evo single-seater on Indonesian asphalt for the first time, in what promises to be another intensely competitive round of the all-electric championship.

The street circuit, designed especially for the race, brings the best of street racing to the picturesque Ancol Beach, the largest park in Southeast Asia, which welcomes around 40,000 visitors per day. Unique banked sections, drops, bumps, and a mix of technical and high-speed corners will test drivers and teams.

At 2.37 km long and featuring 18 corners, the track kicks off with a twisty opening sector following a long straight. There’s room for maneuver through Turn 1, a right-hander, before entering a fluid sequence of corners next to the Ancol Beach City complex.

The final sector is a technical complex following a fast right-hander at Turn 12 and another long straight leading to the hairpin at Turn 13, which will be a key overtaking point. Turn 18, a tricky left-hander, closes the lap and demands a good exit to attack the main straight.

The development of the circuit seeks to leave a lasting legacy in the city, revitalizing Ancol Beach and strengthening Jakarta’s tourism recovery after the pandemic. This event marks the return of Formula E to Indonesia following its visit in Season 9.

Local authorities have also earmarked the area as a future innovation hub, as part of the country’s goal of achieving a full transition to electric vehicles by 2050.

The 2025 Jakarta E-Prix will start at 3:05 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 21.

Formula E’s Background to Jakarta

Formula E’s first visit to Jakarta in 2022 took the 22 drivers to completely new terrain. A huge crowd and record TV audience witnessed a heart-stopping finish, with three drivers crossing the finish line within a second of each other. Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) managed to fend off Jean-Éric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara, securing his third win of Season 8.

In Season 9, the series returned with its first double-header in Jakarta, doubling the on-track excitement. The first race was won by Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche), who narrowly defeated Jake Dennis (Andretti). Maximilian Günther (Maserati MSG Racing) finished third after starting from pole, marking a historic moment, as it was Maserati’s first single-seater pole since 1958.

Günther improved even further on Sunday, taking his fourth Formula E victory and his first in Maserati’s iconic blue colors. It was the first time the legendary trident had stood atop a single-seater podium since Juan Manuel Fangio’s victory at the 1957 German GP, en route to his Formula 1 world title that year.

Championship Status

Season 11 is approaching its final rounds, and this first era of the GEN3 Evo has been incredibly competitive. In the first eleven rounds, we’ve had seven different winners and fifteen drivers on the podium, with eight teams represented in the Top 10 of the drivers’ championship.

Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E Team) comfortably leads the Drivers’ Championship with 171 points, well ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche), who has 103 points. Rowland’s season includes four wins and three second places.
