During the Hyderabad E-Prix of Formula E in India, the ACE Championship was presented, a new category of electric single-seaters that will debut in 2024 with the aim of promoting new talent.

The project will be headed by Dibagh Gill, former Mahindra Racing boss, while Alejandro Agag and Nick Heidfeld will make up the Board of Directors. The former Formula 1 and electric series driver will also act as a development driver for the car.

This tournament will act as a sort of feeder platform for the electric motorsport scenes, including Formula E, and will be a place where drivers, mechanics, strategists, etc., can start paving their way towards the main competitive tournament.

More Details Expected

Beyond the good feelings left by the announcement in the middle of the E-Prix held in India, there is no further information on how this new championship will operate.

It was only leaked that it will have two levels of competition, and that teams will use a single pair of cars for both the lower Challenger level and the higher Championship level: even if these vehicles will be able to put out more power in the Championship level.

As for how the cars will be designed, there is speculation that the Formula E Gen2 chassis will be used to start with. In terms of competing teams, this has also not yet been announced.

“What we’re doing here is not just for the drivers, but for everyone else; engineers, PR people, Marketing, because we want to give them opportunities, and there are a lot of underserved markets, like Asia, Latin America, etc.,” Gill explained.

“That’s where we want to take the championship, where people have the talent, they have the interest, but they don’t have the opportunity. And what we’re trying to do is give them the opportunity to compete here,” he added.

For his part, Heidfeld stressed that they are looking to shape a fair and affordable tournament, and one that will attract young people from all regions of the world to the series to take the step into motorsport. “

“At ACE Championship we are trying to create something that gives young drivers the chance to enter the sport on good circuits and advance in their careers,” emphasized the former racer in the top category of world motorsport.
