Formula 1 is one of the best categories of motorsports (for many, the best). Therefore, what it does in terms of sustainability will always be an example for the rest of the divisions. An indication of this is the French Grand Prix, which was recognized with the FIA 3 Star Environmental Certification.

This distinction awarded by the highest governing body of motor racing is the most prestigious in terms of planet-friendly performance, and the French Grand Prix is the first race organizer to receive it. All this has been possible thanks to the work and efforts to reduce polluting raw materials and leaning towards the use of clean energies or biofuels.

In addition, the Grand Circus event has also implemented an innovative plan that significantly reduces the carbon footprint emitted during the transportation of fans to the Paul Ricard circuit, demonstrating an exemplary commitment to social responsibility and care for the planet.

“The FIA Environmental Certification Framework is an important standard by which sustainability is measured in motorsport and its stakeholders. I am pleased to see that the strong commitments and actions taken by the French Grand Prix have brought it to the Three Star level. Pioneering innovations have always been part of motorsport,” said Jean Todt, President of the FIA.

For his part, GP President, Christian Estrosi, showed his joy after receiving the distinction and shared it with the entire team behind the organization of the event, recognizing the commitment of those involved, who seek to build a sustainable future in motorsports that is as attractive as it is environmentally friendly.

Formula 1 arrived at the Paul Ricard circuit back in 1971, with Jackie Stewart winning the inaugural race with his Tyrrell 003. It returned to the calendar officially for 2018, and its layout is distinguished by low, medium and high-speed corners where it features a super-demanding 290 kilometers per hour turn with forces reaching 5G.
