Ferry Porsche Foundation Launches River Cleanup Program in Romania

Porsche, through its Ferry Porsche Foundation, will work with three other partners on a cleanup program aimed at cleansing rivers in Romania.

The German firm’s entry into this program will intensify the project’s sustainable actions with a new impetus, on which the Audi Environmental Foundation, BABOR and Everwave had already been working.

According to figures provided by Porsche through an official press release, 11 million tons of plastic end up every year in the oceans. A large part of this unfortunate process arrives via the Danube River, which starts in Germany and crosses 10 countries. Therefore, the German manufacturer’s action will be important to clean up the plastic waste in the waters.

To this end, the CollectiX vessel, fully equipped for this task, will be used. An integrated conveyor belt and intelligent sensors collecting specific information on quantity, type and composition of waste will act to clean the river of debris affecting the nature of its function.

Such technology can be employed to develop long-term solutions and strategies to avoid such eventualities, and this is how Sebastian Rudolph, CEO of the Ferry Porsche Foundation, sees it. “Sustainability is one of the most important issues of our time, economically, environmentally and socially. Children and young people are the main focus of our foundation. That’s why we collaborate with our partners to make the environment a little more livable.”

About the Ferry Porsche Foundation

Founded in 2018, the Ferry Porsche Foundation promotes and initiates charitable projects in the areas of social welfare, environment, education and science, culture and sports. With its social commitment, the foundation aims above all to support young people in areas where the company headquarters are located of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. The foundation is named after Ferry Porsche, who established the Porsche sports car brand in 1948.
