Extreme E, the 100% electric off-road category, has implemented a sustainable development policy to evaluate its main actions for the environment, the main focus of the competition since its creation in 2021.

Thus, the main mission of the series is to lead the way towards a lower carbon future by promoting electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. This is especially evident with the upcoming launch of Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen-based off-road racing championship.

“The purpose of our sustainable development policy is to show Extreme E’s commitment to sustainability. Earth Day represents an opportunity to reflect on the importance of environmental protection and the responsibility we have to demonstrate sustainable practices, not just as a motorsports series, but as people and citizens of the planet,” said Ali Russell, Extreme E’s CEO.

Extreme E’s New Policy Objectives

The core values that define the culture of the championship are the environment, equality, electrification, energy and entertainment, principles that guide every choice and activity, ensuring compliance with pillars of sustainable management, integrity, inclusion and transparency.

In this sense, the objectives and practices of the sustainable development policy are based on:

  • Continuing to minimize the environmental impact of our championship, while constantly monitoring, measuring and reducing our carbon footprint year after year.
  • Strengthening our community involvement and legacy programs over the next three seasons to continue to foster an inclusive and socially responsible culture within the Extreme E ecosystem.
  • Develop a sustainability compliance plan within the next three seasons to preserve the credibility and integrity of our brand and reinforce Extreme E’s position as a leader in sport and sustainability.

“Adopting sustainable actions is crucial to our championship and, as a series with innovation at its core, where we strive to lead the way in environmental practices, we will continue to review and evolve this policy in line with the latest developments in sustainable initiatives,” Russell continued.

Finally, the sustainable development policy will be subject to annual review to ensure alignment with the series’ evolving objectives and activities. It will also be accessible online, reaffirming our commitment to transparency and accountability.
