Extreme E kicked off the third season of the category with a bang under a new double-race format that translates into double thrills, with Saudi Arabia once again hosting the ODYSSEY 21 for the opening of the championship. In addition, the presence of the series was also used to unveil new technologies.

At NEOM, the 100% electric off-road category organized an exhibition that showed the world howzthe hydrogen fuel cell system, owned by ENOWA, a local company dedicated to the distribution of electrical energy and new sustainable sources, such as green hydrogen, works.

The system is listed as a low-carbon energy technology that provides a reliable hydrogen-based solution for remote locations, and is one of the largest commercial operational fuel cells in the world and one of the first of its kind.

“I am tremendously proud that the Desert X Prix is able to host this successful first test of the innovative new hydrogen fuel cell system. As a sustainability-driven championship, it has been a fundamental goal to operate in the least impactful way, so using hydrogen in this way is crucial to our series,” said Alejandro Agag, CEO and founder of Extreme E.

Features

Among the most outstanding features of ENOWA‘s green hydrogen system is the recovery of water through the condensate principle, using it to wash the car at the race site, reducing the need to transport water from external sources and increasing sustainability during the X Prix.

The system also allows working in sandy or dusty conditions, as is the case of NEOM, thanks to its filtration and cleaning system. In addition, it has been designed to operate in elevated temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius.

“ENOWA plans to lead the development of world-class sustainable energy, water and hydrogen systems, which I am sure will become a benchmark in the future. Extreme E will also benefit from this by focusing on technology and innovation,” said Roland Kaeppner, Executive Director of Green Hydrogen and Green Fuels at ENOWA.
