Gradually, the race in Dorset, UK, is taking shape for the Grand Final of the Extreme E’s first season with the arrival of the St. Helena, the category’s official ship responsible for transporting cars and equipment for the crews.

The ship arrived at Poole harbor and has already started to unload the machinery that, along with the drivers, will be the protagonist of the Jurassic X-Prix to be held on December 18 and 19.

Since leaving the UK for the first Extreme E race just over nine months ago, the former Royal Mail ship has covered a staggering 19,000 nautical miles, carrying the cargo and logistics of the competition around the world.

What Does the St. Helena Transport?

The mighty ship’s cargo includes the all-electric ODYSSEY 21 race cars, three of which are entries from teams founded by Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button; the AFC Energy system including solar panels and hydrogen fuel cell to charge the cars without emissions; two Zenobe Second Life Batteries to power the paddock; plus everything else needed to create a race site at remote locations with no event infrastructure.

After unloading, the material will be installed at the British Ministry of Defense base in Bovington, an area surrounded by the stunning Jurassic terrain of the historic county of Dorset.

Hard Work

In addition to the logistics involved with organizing a race of this scale, Extreme E has had a busy last few weeks following its participation at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), where it made a series of commitments to help protect the environment.

The founder of the series, Alejandro Agag, expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out. “It has certainly been a busy but very rewarding month. It’s hard to believe that Extreme E is now preparing for its final X Prix of our inaugural season and St. Helena is back here in the UK, where it left almost a year ago.”

He expressed his excitement to finish the campaign in the UK despite the incredible destinations they have traveled to during the year. “The scenery here is equally amazing and there’s no doubt it will certainly be a challenge for the cars and drivers – I can’t wait!” he exclaimed.
