Giampiero Testoni, Energica’s CTO, provided details about the brand’s farewell in MotoE, as the 2022 season will be the last one where they will serve as official supplier of the category’s motorcycles.

The weight distribution will be different where certain things will be handled differently. The inverter and power unit are the pair of parts Testoni says will be different for the upcoming two-wheeled racing campaign. “The components will provide a totally different feel throughout the bike.”

The changes will come into effect for Energica’s final ride in MotoE. However, there were plans to introduce them earlier, but the coronavirus pandemic changed the Italian manufacturer’s plan, leaving everything for the 2022 campaign, which has been dubbed by Giampiero as “the first big season after the COVID problem.”

In fact, these components that will be seen at the Circuito de Jerez when the action kicks off will be making their racing debut, but they won’t be entirely new since Energica revealed that they have been on street bikes for some time, but still need to be demanded in a more exposed way, which is why they decided to include them in MotoE.

After the last checkered flag to be waved in 2022, Energica will cede its place to Ducati, who months ago was announced as the new supplier of electrified motorcycles, taking a step aside in the sustainable competition endorsed by the FIM, but taking with them hundreds of hours of work, tests and useful information to apply them in their commercial line.

Energica in MotoE

In 2018, Dorna selected Energica as the sole manufacturer for the FIM Enel MotoE FIM World Cup. These all-electric races held at iconic MotoGP circuits across Europe feature 12 international teams, fielding 18 riders mounted on the EGO Corsa. All this led the Italians to perfect the bikes and intensify technological development.
