The launch of the electric boat category, E1 Series has sparked the maritime industry’s interest for developing technological vehicles that can navigate at high speed and sustainably.
In that sense, the Dutch company Edorado has announced the launch of a new zero-emission hydrofoil boat that, according to a statement released, is “destined to change the future of motor boating through pioneering clean technology.”
The Model 8S is the latest sustainable powerboat, designed with reduced noise pollution and a cleaner footprint. The manufacturer’s co-founders, Giel Groothuis and Godert van Hardenbroek set out to revolutionize the market with a retractable design powered by an electric drivetrain.
Distinction from other vessels
One of the features that makes the 8S original is the speed, since it is capable of reaching up to 38 knots (70 km / h), which literally makes it take off and glide over the waves through its hydrofoil design.

“Unlike traditional powerboats, which constantly crash into waves, the Edorado flies over the surface, like a sports plane,” van Hardenbroek said. “It glides silently over the water: a new and totally unique sensation, combining the speed of a powerboat with the quietness of sailing.”
It also features a unique system equipped with a patented automatic control structure. The intelligent configuration makes constant adjustments to the two foils for a stable ride. The motorboat also comes with a dual propulsion allowing the vessel to turn in position, giving a much easier docking for its captain.
More than a Luxury Boat
The 8S was designed for more than just extravagant boating. The zero-emissions machine will help address the large carbon footprint of recreational boating, making the practice much more sustainable in the process.
It comes with a whopping price tag of €350,000 ($414,000). Despite Edorado’s striking innovation, in the powerboat industry, the craft will face some healthy competition from environmentally friendly vehicles like Candela or Eelex.
