Dominique Aegerter chooses MotoE after Calendar Clash with Supersport

Drivers’ participation in various tournaments and categories is quite common these days. This is the case of Dominique Aegerter, who rides in both MotoE World Cup and Supersport. The Swiss presence in both tournaments represents a dispute, due to the fact that on September 18 and 19 weekend, the series have races scheduled.

“It’s clear I have to ride in MotoE,” stated the 30-year-old rider at a meeting with Swiss sports media. “I signed the MotoE contract before. I was only able to sign the contract with Ten Kate Yamaha (Supersport Team) if the priority was MotoE. When I signed back in November, we didn’t know exactly about how much overlap there would be. We can hopefully say there is only one.”

Aegerter’s contract situation is clear, but the Dynavolt Intact GP team rider could ask to be cleared for the Supersport World Cup in Barcelona. The Swiss is expected to make such a request, but only if he no longer has a chance to be in the top 3 in the MotoE overall standings.

“Let’s see how things go in Spielberg (Austria),” said the Rohrbacher-born. “I still have a chance to fight for the MotoE title. I’m currently 17 points behind the first, but there are two races in Misano (Italy) and 50 points to go.”

Aegerter would have to go with no points, and Alessandro Zaccone’s victory at the Austrian round would leave him with no chance for Misano in MotoE, a highly unlikely situation. That is why the Ten Kate Yamaha, from Supersport tournament, has to prepare to compete without his number 1 in Barcelona.

“It would be perfect if I had a 50+ point lead, then it wouldn’t be too bad if I missed an event. A title is a title, for me both are valuable and important. As for my future, it’s difficult, even by winning the World Supersport and MotoE World Championship,” he stated.

“In the Supersport World Championship, I could stay with Ten Kate Yamaha for 2022.” The rider also took the opportunity to dart at national media for the little attention given to his races. “Television should do more. I’ ve now won five races back-to-back and Swiss television showed zero, nothing,” he lashed out.

On MotoE, Aegerter is fourth in the overall standings after four races with three to go. Meanwhile, in Supersport, the Swiss leads the standings with 44 points over his closest rival, Steven Odendaal from the Bardahl team.
