Formula E prepares its spectacular nighttime stage in Saudi Arabia to host the second stop of season 9, following the debut of the Gen3 era in Mexico City.

With a track illuminated with LEDs to reinforce the sustainable objective of the series, Diriyah will host the double date on January 27 and 28, where 11 teams and 22 drivers will seek to be at the top of the standings.

In the premiere in Mexican territory, Jake Dennis took the honors of being the first big winner of a race that saw 40,000 spectators cheering the inauguration of the ninth edition of the electrified category.

Circuit Features

The Arab track is a true test of energy management and strategy with a long straight to close the lap. The track has a length of 2,495 meters and 21 corners – nine on the left and 12 on the right – some of them high-speed corners that will allow overtaking.

Because there are many high-speed corners that require drivers to decelerate, the Riyadh Street Circuit is fairly light in terms of energy consumption. While this means it is easy for teams to meet savings targets, the reduced need to recover energy means it can be quite difficult to overtake.

This increases the importance of achieving a good qualifying result in Al-Diriyah.

What’s New

Among the novelties of the double-header in Saudi Arabia is the presence of Kevin van der Linde, who will replace Robin Frijns.

During the race in Mexico, the Cupra driver fractured his wrist and left hand when he hit Norman Nato’s Nissan. As a result, the Dutchman underwent surgery.

Fans attending the CORE Diriyah E-Prix 2023 will see two iconic names in motorsport, McLaren and Maserati, lining up, for the first time, on the Formula E starting grid, where they will compete with other iconic global automotive brands such as Porsche, Jaguar and Nissan among the 11 teams and 22 drivers in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
