Dennis on his Few Title Options: “We were not Fast Enough”

After only his second season in Formula E, Jake Dennis has had the luxury of triumphing in several E-Prix, something that drivers with a longer track record in the electric single-seater series have not done.

In the first race of the double-header held in London, the Avalanche Andretti representative climbed to the top of the podium on a track criticized by several racers, but which for him means victory.

“I love the track, but I like it because I win here. The indoor section is very good, that creates the pre-grid ceremony that you don’t get anywhere else,” Dennis told British media outlet Mirror. However, he is no stranger to suggestions from several of his colleagues, noting that it would be ideal to have a few more overtaking opportunities.

For other drivers, the English capital’s street circuit does not offer enough overtaking opportunities, resulting in some ambitious moves and, as a result, several collisions.

“The faster the circuit, the better. This track is quite fun, but only because I’m fast here. If I were slow, I would say ‘it’s too slow, too tight, no overtaking.’ But when you win here twice, you’re always going to say ‘this is great,'” Dennis added.

With Title Chances?

With Stofel Vandoorne pretty solid and almost 100 points behind, Dennis’ aspirations for the Formula E scepter look slim. In addition to winning on Saturday, the Andretti ace came very close to the double, but was defeated at the last minute by the historic Lucas di Grassi.

Dennis scored 51 points over the weekend, more than anyone else on the grid. Before London, his best result was a third place in the first round of the season, figures that have not been enough to keep him with a clear chance of a title.

He assured that despite being far down the table he feels no frustration with his performance this year. “There hasn’t been any mistakes, we just haven’t been fast enough in certain situations. I think where I am in the championship is where I deserve to be.”

Dennis believes they have performed strongly on the slower speed circuits, while on the fast tracks they have clearly been outclassed.

“I think if you’re going to get back to your form, you want to do it at the end of the year because then everyone will remember how you finished, they can take it into the winter, you’re full of energy and positive vibes,” he concluded.

Formula E will reach its denouement in Seoul, South Korea, in the double-header on August 13-14 to decide the champion.
