Debacle in Formula E: Continuity of DS Techeetah in Danger

Despite its short time on the track, Formula E has already had some historic or emblematic teams within the new electric single-seater series.

One of them is DS Techeetah, a team that has made significant achievements, with two titles by Jean-Eric Vergne, and one by Antonio Félix Da Costa, placing him at the top of the list.

However, beyond sporting issues, the economic sphere represents an unquestionable factor for the operability of the manufacturers within the different motorsport competitions.

During the middle of “season seven”, there was speculation that the Chinese team could disappear for lack of investment, a situation that appeared to have been solved, but the ghost has returned.

Negotiations Breakdown

The successful project behind the brand does not have a guaranteed continuity after the breakdown of an investment agreement with businessman Anthony Di Lorio to assure the viability within the electric competition, now a FIA World Championship.

According to The Race, Di Lorio himself explained that there have been different reasons for the failure of this agreement. “I did my best, but there have been a number of issues preventing us from going ahead with the deal. I wish the team the best and I really hope things work out.”

“It was amazing to meet so many people from the team there. However, the transition has not been able to happen. I got to visit DS Performance’s headquarters in Satory, and we had different meetings. I even made contact with the team staff, but it didn’t happen,” he said.

The commercial contract was very close to being consummated, to the point that Canadian Di Lorio had already created a British-based company called Di Lorio Racing Limited, as a necessary step to take over the management of the team after the compromise, according to reports from motor.es.

Negotiations with DS Performance and SECA began back in June, but by the end of August, everything fell back on the feeling that the transaction had not reached the planned terms prior to the beginning of the 2021-22 season preparations.

As well as the continuity in Formula E, the future of the drivers remains also unclear.
