Carlos Sainz is delighted and focused on the new Extreme E project. With great sponsors and the technology of the Spanish company QEV, he created a totally Iberian team – together with Laia Sanz – for the new category created by Alejandro Agag, ‘prima’ of Formula E.

“I am excited to be in this project, because the championship has a very powerful message with the environment,” Sainz said in an interview through Twitch.

“In the not too distant future, all urban mobility will be electric. In competition the path is clear, with hybrid engines in F1, Extreme E and Formula E. It has to be a steady and steady process, but you have to give the brands time,” he added.

The Extreme E championship began on April 3 in Saudi Arabia and will end in December in Argentina. During the course of the competition, there will be a total of five events in places affected by climate change.

The competition, founded in 2018, was created by the Spanish businessman and former driver Alejandro Agag, also responsible for Formula E. The rally championship in places with extreme conditions is contested with the same vehicle model for all: an electric off-road of the brand Spark.

Sainz also points to the Dakar

Carlos Sainz affirmed that his intention is to compete again in the Dakar Rally in 2022. The three-time winner of the event keeps his illusion intact although he reiterates that his focus for the remainder of the season is on Extreme.

At the same time, Sainz shared his initial feelings with the debut of his son with Ferrari in Formula 1. “I am going to continue doing the Dakar next year. I am still looking forward and eager,” revealed Sainz in the Ibai Llanos program.

With what brand could Carlos Sainz do so? The Madrilenian won in 2020 with Mini and was third in the general of last January with the same firm. Mini cars are prepared by the X-Raid company, led by German Sven Quandt.

It will be the same Quandt and X-Raid who ‘help’ or advise Audi when in 2022 they have their own Dakar team, after having announced their departure from Formula E at the end of this season. Audi could also be an avenue for Sainz in 2022.

He does not forget Formula 1

Sainz expressed his pride in the new adventure of Carlos Sainz Jr. in the Ferrari Formula 1 team. Sainz does not rule out that number 55 will get podiums in 2021, although he believes that it will take a few more races to have more confidence in the SF21.

“I don’t go to F1 races so much because of covid-19. Every so often he comes home to spend the weekend. But I’m excited about his new adventure at Ferrari and I follow him a lot and try to collaborate with him,” explained Sainz.

“Ferrari has taken a step forward compared to last year, which was unrecognizable. They will be with McLaren for being third all year. It is possible that there will be a podium. Although I think Carlos needs a few more races to get to know the car better. Carlos is happy and full of enthusiasm to be at Ferrari,” added.
