Bridgestone, Japan’s leading global tire manufacturer, also has strategies towards sustainable mobility, and announced the introduction of new products specifically for electric cars.

According to various studies conducted by the company, by 2030, single-tire sales for electrified vehicles will account for 90% of total sales.

Actually, Bridgestone has already designed special tires for the Volskwagen ID.3, the first electric car from the ID family. These are lightweight and promising greater fuel and battery savings, with a 20% weight reduction compared to other tires.

Currently, the company already has compounds developed for this type of vehicle, but it is estimated that this will not be enough to supply the commercial fleet emerging in the coming years. In order to do so, they plan to replicate their current strategy by producing for different types of cars with alternative mobility technologies.

Turning Back on Gasoline

In the middle of their eco-friendly plan, Bridgestone also announced that they will remove fossil fuel-powered tires from their range of car tires.

To achieve the goal of shifting to electric mobility, compound design will be a major investment and innovation effort for the company. Adapting production lines will involve financial expenditures estimated at close to three billion dollars.

The company has 50 factories around the world and the first to undergo these changes will be those located on the European continent, followed by the rest.

Key Partnerships

Beyond their tire manufacturing specialty, the Japanese announced a partnership with EVBox Group and TSG for the installation of up to 3,500 new charging points across their European retail and service network.

The construction of these stations will start in France and Italy, and will later be extended to the UK, Germany, Poland, Spain and other European countries.

These will consist of normal and fast charging stations, placed strategically, and will be accessible to all drivers of electric vehicles, both private and fleet.
