The new electric scooter series, eSkootr Championship (eSC), scheduled to begin in 2022, keeps recruiting top-notch members to make the series debut with all irons blazing. From a technology, media and now driver standpoint, the category is assembling a world-class staff.

The eSC announced the launch of a Driver Program for professional athletes who wish to compete in the new tournament, promising to generate a lot of excitement in the world of electrification and micromobility.

The organizers announced on the official competition portal that it is opened to professional athletes from all sports backgrounds, including wheeled sports and balance sports, such as skating, skiing, snowboarding and surfing, with a number of high-profile names already expressing interest, to be published soon.

The project offers potential competitors the opportunity to test the SX-1 eSkootr which has been developed for eSC by the Italian advanced technology firm, YCOM. The vehicle is capable of over 100 km/h and will circulate on specially designed urban circuits in major cities around the world.

A Major Addition

MotoGP rider, Bradley Smith will join eSC to help with rider recruitment and development, using his experience in professional sport to lend his expertise, and identify athletes who can make the transition to become the first eSkootr members in the world.

Teams joining the series will have the opportunity to select drivers from the talent pool on the program at the Draft to be held in January next year. The eSC Draft will allow aspiring athletes from a wide range of sporting backgrounds, while balancing the prospects to ensure an equal level among all squads.

Khalil Beschir, Chief Operating Officer of eSkooter Championship said about the launch that eSC is a sport with a purpose. “We are calling on world-class athletes from all disciplines to come and be part of our program.”

“We will present not only an incredible sporting spectacle, but also be part of a broader mission to help deliver safety, infrastructure and technology to micromobility in our cities,” he added.

Beschir emphasized that there is a need to publicize more sustainable and safer transportation around metropolises, and to invest in technology for developing a better understanding of micromobility.

“eSkootr Championship will be the most diverse sport in the world, attracting professional athletes from all disciplines and will be truly gender neutral. Bradley’s experience recognizing the potential within the test riders will really help us put together an incredible group for our teams to choose at the January Draft,” concluded the executive.

Meanwhile, Smith said he was delighted to be working with the category to select the best. “As a brand new sport, eSC is creating new sports heroes and I’m excited to be part of the process on identifying those individuals.”

“We are talking to some incredibly talented athletes from a variety of disciplines, and I have no doubt that we will find some true stars among them,” he revealed.

“We intend to remove barriers often associated with racing championships, and reaching a new demographic through an accessible, high-level sport that is accessible to a hugely diverse range of professional athletes from a variety of backgrounds,” added Smith.
