Antonio Felix da Costa to Stay with DS Techeetah for 2022

After rumors swirled that Antonio Félix da Costa would join several Formula E teams, the 2020 Formula E Champion ratified his commitment to DS Techeetah for the 2022 season.

Specifically, the Portuguese was linked to teams like Mercedes, in case the current champion, Nyck de Vries, had signed for Williams Formula 1, while there was also talk of a possible return to Andretti Autosport.

The driver has been part of DS-Techeetah in Formula E since the 2019-20 season and won the championship title with the team in its first foray. However, last season, the squad was unable to build on the successes of previous years.

No Official Announcement

“I haven’t been announced to the team yet, but I guess it’s a very poorly kept secret. Everything is going well,” da Costa told media at the FIA World Endurance Championship preview in Bahrain.

He expressed his satisfaction at returning to the same organization and working with the members for a third year, as he believes it is one of the strongest teams in Formula E.

“They have so many championships to their name, so I am very happy to continue and all the preparations are going well,” expressed the driver. He reported that he will concentrate with DS in Valencia, where he will carry out pre-season tests, and assured that he is eager to show his potential in the 2022 season of the electric single-seater series.

The Portuguese won only one race and finished the season eighth overall. The reason for this was also the financial problems at SECA, Techeetah’s owner.

His 2022 Predictions

Felix Da Costa took the opportunity to offer his view on the No. 8 campaign by noting that Mercedes, and its client squad Venturi, will remain the benchmark as homologation rules prevent teams from introducing major upgrades to their existing powertrains.

“I am 100% sure Mercedes will be there again and with two teams or four cars, all of them with very good drivers, with the addition of di Grassi to Venturi they will be a team to beat,” he said.

In addition to the power of Mercedes, the DS driver believes that Nissan and Jaguar will continue to be strong and estimates that, like last year, at least 12 drivers will be fighting until the end for the title.
