The reigning Formula E champion Antonio Félix da Costa is one of the most experienced drivers in the series. With six seasons of electric single-seater racing under his belt, he is positioned as one of the main competitors to watch.

The Portuguese became the fifth champion in the history of the category, in a complete season that was also sealed with the crown for his DS Techeetah team.

After the pause forced by covid-19, Formula E planned a quick end to the season with six races in Berlin, where the championship came back to the tracks. However, from day one, da Costa and DS Techeetah proved to be ahead of the pack, and only four rounds were enough for both championships to be mathematically decided.

Born into a family of drivers, da Costa started karting at the age of nine and competed in various Portuguese championships against more experienced participants. In 2007, he made his way to Formula Renault 2.0 cars and, after making his mark in the Formula 3 Euro Series and GP3, he finally joined the Red Bull program. After making his debut as a Formula 1 test driver for Force India in 2010, he went on to drive four of Adrian Newey’s winning vehicles at Red Bull Racing.

Beginning his journey through Formula E, da Costa was part of the Aguri team in 2014, with which he competed for two seasons. After securing an early victory in Buenos Aires during the first season, the top of the podium was elusive for the Portuguese until he managed to win the first round of the 2018-19 season in Saudi Arabia.

In season number three, da Costa switched to the American team Andretti, where he stayed for two years and was able to benefit from the team’s technical collaboration with BMW in 2017-18. In 2017, Andretti’s collaboration with the German brand resulted in a full team of the manufacturer, adopting the team name BMW i Andretti Motorsport, with da Costa and his partner Alexander Sims as the driver duo for the team’s debut.

For the new season, da Costa is expected to hit from the beggining to defend his title in a competition that promises many emotions aboard the electric cars.
