Antonio Félix da Costa: “Joining Formula E is the Best Decision of my Life”

The E-Prix of Hyderabad, in India, marked a milestone in António Félix da Costa‘s sporting career by reaching his 100th race in the electric single-seater championship.

In an interview for Porsche‘s official website, the driver reviews his career and analyzes the future of Formula E as a sporting competition that brings sustainable values to the planet.

He recalled his debut in November 2014 in Malaysia, describing the experience as fascinating and demanding. “It was very hot inside the car. I scored some points and overall we had a good weekend, although I remember being very tired at the end. I also raced DTM that year and some races were on the same weekends. In fact, I didn’t get to race the first race in the history of Formula E, in Beijing, so my debut was in the second race of the world championship.”

His First Victory

Asked about his victories in the series, he said: “I have good memories of all of them. The two wins in Berlin were especially noteworthy because we contested six races in nine days due to confinement. That was in 2020, the year I secured the championship with a 71-point lead.”

Like most drivers, da Costa revealed that Formula 1 was his dream. “I was on the verge of being a test driver for Red Bull Racing. At first, the idea of racing an all-electric car championship seemed crazy to me. And, to be honest, I wasn’t in the best frame of mind at the time.”

He noted that joining Formula E made him realize the mission and possibilities of competition in a very changing landscape. “For me, it was and still is an exciting challenge to prove on the track that electric vehicles are not boring, but fast and efficient. I knew in a short time that Formula E had a bright future.”

Competition’s Impact

On the rapid rise that Formula E has had, the driver stressed that the fact that Formula E is now a world championship and that a car manufacturer as successful as Porsche is committed to it, underlines its importance.

It is worth noting that the electric single-seater series has significantly expanded its calendar not only to expand as a sporting competition, but with the goal of leaving a legacy and sustainable plans to each destination it visits.
