In view of the political conflict generated by the Jakarta E-Prix within Indonesian politics, the co-founder of Formula E, Alberto Longo assured that the organization and the resources allocated are carried out with total transparency.

Politicians opposed to authorities of the designated host city have criticized the funds used for the race, arguing that the local government should respond to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19 instead of investing on the sporting event.

Specifically on costs, Longo said there was nothing to hide. “We like transparency. We also transparently ask the Jakarta people because there is nothing to hide here,” he said at a press conference in Menteng area.

Career Under Scrutiny

In his statement, the executive said Formula E is ready to answer questions raised by the authorities to avoid misunderstandings. The event’s organization is under investigation by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) over indications of irregularities related to Good Corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance (GCGRC) on the implementation of Formula E in Indonesia.

“We will collaborate with all relevant parties to avoid conflicts. I don’t know the results of the studies that were conducted, but I can assure you that nothing is going wrong,” added Longo, who also assured that Formula E’s journey is running smoothly without violating any provisions.

The boss of the electric single-seater series considered that instead of generating suspicions and divisions, the E-Prix should be received with enthusiasm, because the Indonesian government and the local authorities of Jakarta have worked hard to present a major sporting spectacle in the region.

“They should be very proud because Indonesia negotiated very, very hard to be able to hold this championship,” he concluded.

It is worth noting that Indonesia’s contract with Formula E began in 2020, but both that year and in 2021, the category was unable to race in the territory due to pandemic restrictions.
