Everything indicates that the best of the age of electric cars is yet to come in the coming years. It will be in 2023 when the design of a vehicle of this type, in charge of the British company Heatherwick Studios, will appear on the market and will be able to clean the air while moving.

The London-based company has dubbed the car the “Airo concept” and it has already been unveiled in Shanghai for what will be the final manufacturer, the Chinese electric car company, IM Motors.

Along with IM Motors, SAIC Motor, R&D Zhangjiang Hi Tech and e-commerce specialists Alibaba will also work in manufacturing.

Main Features

As detailed by Heatherwick Studios in its announcement, the Airo will be totally electric and will have autonomous modes controlled in a certain way by the drivers.

It will be equipped with a high-efficiency particle absorption filtering system that will clean the polluted air emitted by other cars. What remain a mystery are the details of the powertrain and the performance that the car will have.

The vehicle will have two seats inside that with space for a table between them and an eccentric dashboard where you can watch videos through different screens. In addition, the spaciousness of the cabin will allow it to accommodate a double bed with the seats reclined.

Also noted in the design is a panoramic roof and a folding screen that can serve as a game room.

“Airo is not simply another electric car that doesn’t pollute the air. Instead, using the latest HEPA-filter technology, it goes further by also vacuuming-up pollutants from other cars as it drives along,” said Thomas Heatherwick, founder of Heatherwick Studio.

“Designed to simultaneously address the global space shortage, Airo is also a multifunctional room with extra space for dining, working, gaming or even sleeping. [This] is not simply another electric car that does not pollute the air. Instead, using the latest HEPA filter technology, it goes further by also vacuuming-up pollutants from other cars as it drives along,” he assured.

Among the most important works that Heatherwick Studios has to its credit is the New Routemaster, a double-decker electric-diesel hybrid bus that travels in the city of London.

In addition, the designer house was the mastermind in making the cauldron where the Olympic flame was lit at the London 2012 games and created the Garden Bridge concept and the distinctive Coal Drops Yard building in King’s Cross.
