E-Bike Grand Prix (EBK GP) continues to take shape ahead of Dubai’s debut, scheduled to take place in 2023, but with an exhibition event later this year. For this, the category will have the support, experience and professionalism of Mark Barfield, who has been announced as the new Sports Director, carrying on his shoulders more than 20 years of experience supporting the decision of the series.

The Tour de France and Olympic Games are among the events where Barfield has been involved. In addition, he worked at the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) as Head of Bicycles, a non-profit organization representing the interests of the sporting goods industry, covering up to 195 countries.

Now, at the E-Bike Grand Prix Series, his responsibility will be to develop technical and sporting regulations under a challenging and adrenaline-fueled race format. He will also be heavily involved with the electric racing bike development alongside BMC Switzerland and the teams involved.

“EBK GP is the competition that will revolutionize the electric bike market, pushing technical innovation to the next level, similar to how F1 has powered the automotive industry. I am very excited to join the team as Sports Director and I look forward to delivering a bike and format that will amaze our viewers,” said Barfield.

About E-Bike Grand Prix

EBK GP is an exciting new international cycling sport. A grand prix series that showcases E-Bike’s innovative technology while working with global host cities to raise awareness of the challenges of climate change; seeking to mobilize citizens and promote cleaner, greener and healthier cities.

Launching in late 2022 with a showcase event in Dubai, the race series will roll out to 10 major cities around the world in 2023. Each EBK GP host city will commit to a bespoke three-year Sustainable Transformational Mobility (STM) program to improve active micro-mobility and reduce carbon emissions in cosmopolitan urban environments.
